During the demonstration, we were shown a mission, in which David Jones-the same James Bond-like special agent from the original Project IGI-is placed on the top of a sand dune, overlooking an enemy base with a small heliport. David Jones returns to thwart yet another terrorist plot.Įven at such an early stage in development, IGI 2: Covert Strike's AI is already significantly more complex than the AI in the previous game. We had a chance to take a look at a very early build of the game, and while some elements have yet to be fully incorporated, it's clear that Innerloop wanted to tackle the flaws of the original game first. Fortunately for fans, Project IGI sold well more than 100,000 copies in Europe, prompting the development team at Innerloop to begin work on a sequel that would not only address problems in the original, but also introduce diverse environments, various multiplayer modes, and revamped AI.
Despite some of its glaring flaws, the original Project IGI ultimately delivered a solid first-person shooter experience that earned it a favorable review, but its domestic release was somewhat overshadowed by the release of several other high-profile games, so Project IGI was lost in the shuffle.
